Hapax
Hapax is open for submissions for its Winter 2016 edition. We accept visual art, poetry, flash fiction, flash nonfiction, and prose submissions. We are now a paying market, offering $5 per acceptance plus a digital PDF of our magazine. You should submit work to us in a standard font and readable format. We aim to keep our response times low. Please query after 12/15/16 to editor@hapax.ink. Simultaneous submissions are fine; we understand what the literary world is like. No reprints, please.
- If you need to withdraw, please use the Submittable withdrawal feature. If you are only withdrawing part of your work, please leave a note in Submittable letting us know which pieces have become unavailable.
- For visual art, we please include a short description of your work.
- We ask for 1-5 poems up to 40 lines or prose up to 3100 words. There are no genre, style, or formal restrictions on what you enter, but we ask that every facet of your piece has a purpose, and that you offer your very best work.
- The best way to get a feel for our aesthetic is to read Issue One, which is available for free on our site, or to download Issue One for $1. I love working with critique customers and often encourage them to submit a revised piece. I aim to respond to critique submissions within two weeks, but paying for a critique will not jump you to the front of the queue.
You, in turn, acknowledge that you are the sole creator of your submissions, or, in the case of collaborations, that everyone is on board with being published by our magazine. You also agree that we may perform small edits such as fixing typos. We will always ask you about bigger edits first.
Publication schedule: Our deadline for Issue Two is 11/15/16, and we will be publishing in mid-December. After a brief hiatus, we will reopen for submissions in January 2017.
